Stonewall riots happened 50 years ago and worldwide LGBTIQ communities are celebrated this milestone in queer history. Besides many academic and social-political initiatives, Stonewall has become a keyword in contemporary debates about gay-lesbian equality. But who and what is referring to Stonewall nowadays? What do people perceive by referring to Stonewall? Is it all about Roland Emmerich’s movie “Stonewall” or more about RuPauls Drag Race and some hidden hints like “Paris is burning”? In my paper I am going to analyze “Stonewall” as a portentous terminus for social, cultural, political and scientific debates by deframing an unclear picture of a historical incident with worldwide impacts.
